Kelly O'Connell

NZAC Qualified Therapist

Although men and women can have many of the same problems, some are unique. Importantly, men and women are socialised differently in our society and can have gender specific needs in the counselling setting. In many cases women turn inwards with emotional difficulties resulting in an increase in depression, anxiety and low self-esteem.

Women’s Issues

Women can face challenges around body image, self-acceptance and self-esteem, including issues of ageing and other midlife concerns, such as empty nest syndrome, menopause, caring for elderly parents, widowhood.

Women can be affected by post-natal/partum depression and hormonal disorders and are more likely than men to be raising children alone. Women are also more likely to have to cope with financial hardship. These and other situations can lead to:

  • Anxiety & Stress
  • Depression
  • Anger Management Problems
  • Feelings of Grief & Loss
  • Panic Attacks
  • Eating Disorders
  • Low Self-Worth
  • Overwhelming Emotions
  • Relationship Issues

There are many things that can be done to help improve mood and resilience. If you feel overwhelmed and under pressure, Kelly can help you explore your needs as a woman and help empower you to deal effectively with your problems.
