My Approach & Values
I have worked with individuals and have facilitated therapy groups in different settings, e.g. hospitals and other agencies.
I see what I do as part of the healing process for people in their journey of life, and always hold hope with them (or for them). We all experience life’s difficulties and when we get stuck in our pain and these issues cause barriers to us moving forward, this is a place when we can ask for help.

My Story
My journey as a Counsellor has been extensive and varied. I am a natural people helper and hold each person’s story as a privilege. I started out as a registered nurse in 1996 and this evolved as I saw the needs of clients and became a qualified therapist in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (Post graduate Certificate), following 2 years of Narrative therapy, then Qualified as a Counsellor (3 years) that specialised in person-centred and CBT in 2009, and became a full member of New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC). I studied further in ‘Clinical Supervision’ for my Post Graduate Diploma in Health Science. Then following this I trained in Dialectical Behavioural therapy (emotion regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness) and worked with the Dialectical Behavioural Team for a year at the Hospital. I have a plethora of tools to help people, and I have been trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), working with trauma clients.
For 14 years I have worked in Mental Health services in two DHBs. I worked as the Eating Disorder Clinician, a role that involved specialist assessment and treatment (therapy) and had a role with other various client groups. I have also worked in other agencies where I worked specifically with males and with females ranging from youth to the elderly.
